- Ethylene-Pr-opylene-Diene-Monomer (EPDM)
- Polychloroprene (CR)
- Acrylonitrile-Butadiene Copolymer (NBR, HNBR)
- Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene (CSM)
- Fluoroelastomer (FKM)
- Polyacrylate rubber (ACM)
- Epi-chlorohydrin rubber (ECO)
- Silicone rubber (VMQ)
Key Properties of FKM
1. Extreme Temperature Resistance
- Operating Range: -20°C to 200°C (short-term exposure up to 250°C), surpassing NBR and ACM.
- Minimal mechanical degradation under prolonged heat aging.
2. Superior Chemical Stability
- Resists strong acids (concentrated sulfuric/nitric acid), alkalis, organic solvents (ketones, esters), and oxidizing agents (ozone, chlorine).
- Exceptional resistance to fuels, lubricants, and hydraulic oils with negligible swelling.
3. Low Permeability
- Extremely low gas/liquid permeability, ideal for vacuum seals and fuel containment systems.
4. Flame Retardancy
- Self-extinguishing properties compliant with UL 94 V-0 standards, suitable for flammable environments.
5. Mechanical Strength
- High tensile strength (10–25 MPa) and abrasion resistance, outperforming silicone rubber and FVMQ.
6. Low-Temperature Limitations
- Standard FKM hardens below -20°C; specialized grades (e.g., low-temperature FKM) extend usability to -40°C.
Primary Applications
1. Automotive Industry
- Fuel Systems: Tank seals, injector O-rings (compatible with ethanol-blended fuels and biodiesel).
- Turbochargers: Seals for high-temperature/pressure air pathways.
- EVs: Battery cooling line seals (resistant to electrolyte corrosion).
2. Aerospace
- Engine fuel pump seals, hydraulic valves (tolerant to jet fuel JP-8 and thermal cycling).
3. Chemical & Energy
- Refinery valve gaskets, reactor seals (resistant to acidic media).
- Semiconductor industry: Seals for ultra-pure chemical delivery systems.
4. Military & Specialty Equipment
- Missile fuel system seals, deep-sea pressure-resistant components.
